Born in Svendborg on Funen, Denmark, Kathrine Windfeld manifested her artistic streak as a teen, when she experimented with painting, theater, singing and, finally, the piano, which became her main tool of artistic expression. During her musical studies in Copenhagen, Kathrine started to create musical arrangements for big bands, while also embarking on various musical roads with progressive quintet Gespenst, her bridge to jazz and improvisation. In 2012, she put together the first version of the Kathrine Windfeld Big Band (KWBB), and two years later went on to release her first album, Aircraft, featuring two renowned musicians: danish drummer Morten Lund and swedish trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz. This work earned her a prestigious Danish Music Award as ”New Jazz Artist of The Year” and was also nominated in further two categories, ”Album Of The Year” and ”Composer Of The Year.”
